Young ladies it’s about time that we take a stand. Too many people feel that as young ladies we don’t know what we really want out of life. Well, let me be the first to let you know that as a young woman I know everything I want to accomplish in my life and how I am going to go about accomplishing them. So just because someone tries to control your life doesn’t mean you let them. No one can tell you how you can live your life but you and you are the only person besides the man upstairs who controls yours future. If you believe in your self then you should keep pushing towards your drams no matter what may come your way. And if you see a young lady who feels she can’t make it then be the young lady who’s there to help her when she needs it. If we don’t help one another then who will?

Teen Girls With Older Guys

Listen young ladies, never in life will it ever be cute for younger girls to date an older guy. Young ladies there are more things to life then being something your not. Let me tell you a secret, it is a fact that younger girls who have a STD has gotten it from an older man. Just imagine it, when an older guy tries to talk to a young girl most of the time they only want one thing, and young ladies we all know what that is. So here is a word of encouragement, you are worth much more then these guys try to make you seem. We all can become that successful person we dreamed to be. So just sit back and really think about, is that older guy worth letting go of your dreams?, or are you willing to be that girl who lives her dream?

What Is A Lady?

**This is a poem I wrote for Youth Initiatives Project’s portion in an event for the Neighborhood Service Organization on the 25th at the Harper-Gratiot Multi Service Center (Y.I.P.’s main site). Just thought I would share it with all the readers of our Provocative Woman Campaign Blogs.
What is a lady? Someone who sets a positive example for everyone around her. One who inspires and gives, who cares and shares, who loves and forgives. One who does not hold grudges, for she sees the positivity in every situation. A lady is so much more than high heels, neat hair, and a nice fragrance. A lady should be beautiful inside and out, not just a species of the female gender. A lady is the equivalent of a lord; she is so much more than physical beauty. So take a tour of your mind and I’ll bet you’ll find the lady in you. That part of you that is so powerful. And what you need to do is take control of that part, let it shine bright, like a blinding light, for the lady in you is not that hard to find, because the beauty in us starts with the mind.

I Just Wanna Be Successful-(Preview)

What is success to you? Success is defined as: the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors. To me, success is simply achieving your goals. I have so many goals that I want to achieve, and to do that, I believe that I have to have a positive mind. And to keep my mind positive, I have to steer clear of the negative.
But how can I become successful? It may take sacrifices, or a motivational pep talk every once in a while. How can I steer clear of the negative? I believe that that could also take sacrifices. Those sacrifices could be keeping my distance from some of the negative people in my life, no matter how hard that may be. It could even mean celibacy; this is something my best friend and I have been considering. However, we’ve taken this farther than just a thought, and if we do decide to go through with it, we would make it official with rings; purity rings, that is.
In all honestly with ourselves, we decided that we weren’t doing the best we could as far as our grades in school. To improve, we need to stay focused. If this would mean making a vow to ourselves, one another, God, and our families, not to have sex, we are willing to take it. Believe it or not, sex can get you side-tracked as far as staying focused on things, and to make a promise not to get involved with that just yet, is empowering ourselves to aim higher, and to stay focused on the things that really matter. I say that sex can get you side-tracked because I know that I am the type of person that is easily distracted. Despite all these reasons, though, I want to keep my main focus on the things that are going to bring me a productive future. Sex is not something that I take lightly, especially at this stage in my life, and it’s definitely not something I’m going to throw around and tease with for my own benefit.
It’s not a point of being scared, thinking I am or wanting to be better than anyone else, or trying to be different; it’s a point of being empowered to do my best, to steer clear of the negative, to and be successful.

Prom Night & What Matters Most

Hey 2009 seniors, it’s that time of the year for us. We’ve been waiting and planning three long years for it and now it’s finally here. You all know, prom! That one day of our four years in high school that we really show our elegant and sophisticated selves in the forms of gowns and tuxes.
The most important part to me about prom is the planning. In addition to planning for things like what color to wear, what hairstyle to try, and what shoes will match the fly clutch, how will we be able to bring our true style to life on this day? Planning, especially planning ahead, is one of the most responsible things to do for anything especially prom. However, most teens from previous proms had failed plan for their safety.
Of all things, other than your prom dress ladies, your safety is more important than the activities or articles of clothing or jewelry you wear on that night. You can’t "floss" anything if you’re in the hospital or worse, dead! Teens fail to realize that one of the most dangerous nights to be out driving, other than St. Patrick’s Day and New Years, is prom night.
Its kind of crazy to think of prom night as being one of the most dangerous nights to be driving around but its true and we must make ourselves aware of the dangers that could occur on a day that comes only once in a lifetime.
Here are some things to consider:
Þ More than one-third of youth under the age of 21 were killed in an alcohol- related fatality in 2001 during the months of April, May, and June – prom and graduation season – according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Þ A new law that took effect Sept. 1 in Michigan that could mean tougher penalties other than being fined or ticketed for teens caught with the possession of alcohol such as jail time.
So for that special day, if you think you haven’t though about anything else, make sure you think about the safety of you.

Love, Inside and Out

My mom once told me in order for others to love you for you, you have to learn how to love yourself completely no matter what flaws you have. When you learn to love yourself, you can start to love others around you no matter the circumstances. I have friends who feel like they are worthless or not beautiful enough just because they arent tall or athletic enough. This kind of thinking can be very dangerous and may possibly lead you in harming your own body. Have you ever wonder or thought about your body being a temple? Treating our body well is very important.
Now-a-days many girls develop a low self-esteem by comparing themselves to other girls. For instance, some would have or need expensive materialistic things to make them feel better but that feeling doesnt last long. It is only a temporary satisfaction. Having a healthy self-esteem in teens is an important factor for us. Girls have an ideal body for themselves and it leads to an unhealthy diet and emotional problems. So many females lack self-esteem and a way to build your self-esteem is to be in a positive environment. You have to have positive people that would motivate your esteem. Other ways to build are to join in sports, do volunteer organizations, interact with adults, children and even get a part time job.
But I think beauty is from the inside out. Outside beauty only lasts for a short time but the inner beauty lasts for a lifetime. If we were to have the same shape and size our world wouldn't go round. The world wouldn't be fun and life wouldn't be interesting.

The media makes us think that we have to be a certain size, height, weight, or look in order to be beautiful. For example, to be beautiful you would have to wear a size 2 and be 56. The magazine promotes fashion and beauty for girls to only think about that and only some promote school or careers.

Fatherhood

The behavior of today’s female youth is becoming outrageous and is growing to ridiculous numbers. The activities in which young teenage females partake in are not that of which I believe they were raised to even be around. As far as I know, in being a teen the only thing we should be worrying about is getting our education, getting a job, and getting ready for college. But now teens worry more about who’s wearing what, who’s drinking what, who’s doing who, and when am I going to be apart of this.
It seems to me that the direction female youth are heading in leads right off a cliff, but I am sure no one meant for them to go in that direction. It is said that 48.7 percent of households in America have single mothers as heads of the households. Meaning, the mothers take care of responsibilities that should be shared with the father as well as the mother. But every day the population of both parents in the household seems to be decreasing, and mothers are taking the role of everyone. Where are the fathers?
It has been seen on the local news how young females from high school seniors to even elementary school students are becoming involved in behaviors of which people that witness them do not feel it’s true and wish it wasn’t true. It would never seem they act the way they do until they open their mouths or until you’ve witness them in the act yourself. They are becoming substance abusers and criminals as early as the ages of twelve. Teen females are engaging in sexual acts and soliciting themselves over the internet and it has become evident that the main causes of this would be lack of attention and absenteeism of fathers in the home.
A father’s involvement in teaching his children, especially his girls, is very important for their future. It is important for girls to learn first hand from their fathers everything there is for him to teach with such issues as guys, leadership, courage, and most importantly life. But it seems that this issue relies mainly on the mothers when they are left not only to take care of the family, bills, and job, but they also have to find the time to talk to their children about guys, leadership, courage, and life.
It takes two to tango, and to this end I strongly support the involvement of fathers in their daughters’ lives for the betterment of their future.
